What weight/thickness are your satchels?
PEcoPak satchel materials are 70 microns.
A micron is a measurement used to describe the thickness of materials like paper, plastic and human hair. 1 micron is the same as 0.001mm.
To give you an idea, standard kitchen foil is 10-15 microns.
How will our customers compost their satchels?
It's easy to compost PEcoPak satchels. Your customers can follow our easy 3-step process shown below.
Another option in many local councils is to put compostable satchels in the green waste bin. It's worth checking with the council to be sure.
Are your satchels waterproof?
They're as waterproof as standard mailing satchels. But like standard satchels, they need to be well sealed to keep moisture out.
Being compostable, if you put them in water for a long time, they'll break down there too.
How long do your compostable satchels take to break down?
If you're putting them in your compost at home, PEcoPak satchels take about 6 months to break down. And in commercial compost, about 3 months.
What are your satchels made from?
Great question! They're made from a combination of:
- PBAT - a polymer that's 100% compostable. It stands for Polybutylene Adipate Terephthalate
- PLA - a vegetable-based plastic - Polylactic Acid
- Cornstarch
Are your compostable satchels as durable as plastic ones?
PEcoPak satchels are more durable than the standard plastic mailing satchels.
They're also water resistant and flexible, plus they feel great!

What's the shelf life of your satchels?
Compostable satchels have a shorter shelf life than standard plastic mailers.
PEcoPak satchels can be stored for up to 6 months, which is why we make it easy for you to buy in quantities that work for your business, starting at packs of 25.
Are your compostable satchels certified?
Yes, PEcoPak satchels are manufactured in strict accordance with Australian standards for degradation and toxicity: AS 4736.
Are the strips covering the adhesive compostable?
The adhesive is compostable, but because they need to peel off easily for you to seal the satchel, the plastic strips are not compostable.
They can be disposed of wherever you dispose of other soft plastics in your area.
